A shopping centre wouldn’t be the first place that springs to mind when deciding where to go for dinner, in fact, it’s more likely the opposite. Chadstone breaks away that stigma with their recent $660 million development that includes their brand new dining terrace that brings luxury, fashion, retail, dining and entertainment to a whole new level.
By whole new level, we mean it in quite the literal sense when referring to the dining terrace that dominates its own floor in the new section of Chadstone. Separated from the commotion of the retail area, the dining terrace offers an escape and zen, away from the hustle and bustle. Positioned under the architectural masterpiece, that is the grid-shell roof, natural light shines through the long-wide hallway that gives us the perfect vantage point to discover the seven full service restaurants that include: Mezz, The Burger Project, Fonda, Marae Izakaya, Woodstock Pizzeria, Mama’s Buoi and New Shanghai.
Mezz is an approachable Modern Australian concept, with an un-offensive, sophisticated but still family-friendly menu. The fit-out beckons champagne and Pimms with the garden party-esque decor. A tan leather banquette with a flamingo patterned backrest is framed within a makeshift wooden veranda that dangles bistro bulb fairy lights. A mixture of wooden and white bentwood chairs provide comfortable seating options in the spacious venue, but the best seats in the house would have to be the hanging wicker chairs.
The menu showcases an array of dishes; Thai beef salad seared medium rare with papaya, cucumber, carrot, leaves and a dressing with just the right amount of kick. For those who aren’t friends with salad, comfort food such as a creamy chicken and mushroom risotto or blue swimmer crab linguini might be more enticing. Or how about grilled Atlantic crispy skin salmon with kipfler potatoes, lemon and citrus? Lighter options or sides include the likes of fries, wedges, salt and pepper calamari or chicken ribs. Finish it all off with their selection of sweet treats from their display cabinet.
The dining terrace is also home to one of Australia’s favourite burger chains, The Burger Project by celebrated chef Neil Perry. Using 100% grass fed Cape Grim beef or Lilydale free range chicken in their burgers, this burger chain prides itself on good quality produce. Their tagline is, fast food, slow food values, after all. Yes, you should get fries with that. Their sichuan pepper fries seasoning is deliciously addictive. Wash it all down with their refreshing house made iced tea or a salted caramel thick shake and add a blueberry pie sundae to induce the most relaxing food coma.
Head to New Shanghai where they have our favourite pork and prawn wontons with peanut butter sauce or Mama’s Buoi for a hot bowl of Vietnamese pho. Woodstock Pizzicheria or Fonda Mexican are always a hit for a casual affair of any size. Take advantage of Marae Ikazaya’s sushi train if you’re after an interactive date or short for time.
Chadstone is open until 9pm on Saturday and 7pm on Sunday and the Dining Terrace restaurants are open until late every night.
